Nano Banana 2.1 is Google DeepMind's update to Nano Banana 2, released as generally available on 6 October 2026 in the Gemini API and on Vertex, with a model card published the same day official. Google says it "outperforms our previous models across the board, with notable leaps in visual design, mask-based editing, and subject consistency" official, @Google on X, 6 Oct 2026. The documentation lists 1K, 2K and 4K output (default 1K), up to 14 reference images per prompt, selectable thinking levels (minimal, medium, high) and improved text rendering official. Google's own model card is candid about limits: small text can be blurry at 1K, and character consistency between an input photo and the output is not perfect official. The usual remedy is to request 2K or 4K and to name, in the prompt, the details that must stay.
