What you can make
Create thumbnail artwork for YouTube, tutorials, cooking videos, or travel stories. Spicy Mayo creates still images; video editing, animation, and video export are not available.
How to use the video thumbnail maker
01
Describe the video's main idea
Choose one clear subject that represents the content. Describe the scene and mood without cramming in every detail of the video.
02
Plan a wide composition
Start with 16:9 for a standard wide thumbnail. Ask for a strong focal point and empty space if you will add headline text later.
03
Check it at a small size
Generate and download a PNG, then preview it at thumbnail size. Add final text or crop in your design tool and upload through your video platform.
Three prompts to start with
These are starting instructions, not guaranteed results. Change the subject or setting to fit your idea.
Desk makeover video
A YouTube thumbnail image for a desk makeover video: a beautifully organized creative workspace with an orange lamp and cobalt blue accessories. One clear focal point on the right, clean dark space on the left for a headline added later. High contrast, 16:9 composition, no text.
A cooking video thumbnail showing a close-up of a crispy sandwich cut in half, with a vivid orange sauce and fresh herbs. Simple dark background, appetizing natural light, bold readable silhouette, wide 16:9 composition, no text.
A travel video thumbnail of a winding coastal road above bright turquoise water, viewed from a dramatic elevated angle. A small yellow car as the focal point, warm sun, clean space in the upper left, wide 16:9 composition, no text.
A strong subject against a simple background is easier to understand at a small size than a busy collection of tiny objects.
Keep the promise accurate
Choose imagery that represents the actual video. Avoid a thumbnail that implies results, people, or events absent from the content.
Finish for your platform
Spicy Mayo exports PNG images. Check your platform's current file requirements and resize or compress the download if needed.
BEFORE YOU START
Good questions, clear answers.
Can Spicy Mayo edit or generate videos?+
No. Spicy Mayo currently generates and edits still images. This tool creates thumbnail artwork and cover images, not video clips.
Can I use a frame from my video?+
Yes. Export a frame yourself as a JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 4 MB, then use the AI image editor to restyle that image. The studio does not accept video uploads.
Can I make a vertical cover?+
Yes. Change the aspect ratio to 9:16 in the studio for a vertical still image. Position important details to suit your platform's preview crop.
